Compare like with like

The mistake is comparing this month to last month. Output falls naturally into the shorter, cloudier months and rises again that seasonal swing masks real problems for a year at a time.

Compare this month against the same month last year. A 5% difference is noise. A 20% difference means something has changed.

What a sudden drop usually means
